If ever a debate could be over, to the point where prolonging it is an exercise in foolishness, it's the fate of the smoking bans in New York state and New York City. A federal judge has rejected all the lame objections to the bans' constitutionality with the zeal of someone finally dropping a bad habit.
Argument after argument was tossed out by U.S. District Judge Victor Marrero in Manhattan, to the point where the anti-smoking laws stood more credible than ever in the space of such sophistry.
