Qld: 45,000 homes without power after storm hits Brisbane

Crews have worked through the night to restore power to about 45 thousand homes blacked
out by yesterday's thunderstorm over south-east Queensland.

The storm .. the 18th to hit the region in two months .. brought heavy rain .. winds
of up to 95 kilometres .. and two thousand lightning strikes from Beenleigh, Laidley,
Gatton and Toowoomba .. to Brisbane and the coast.

A 22-year-old man on Russell Island was hit .. but was able to return home after treatment
.. while a block of units and a home in Brisbane were unroofed .. cars damaged .. and
trees uprooted.

An Energex spokeswoman says the remaining couple of hundred homes without power in
Brisbane's northern suburbs and on Russell Island .. should have electricity by noon.
